This valuable document edited by Dorothy Erickson details the first hundred years of the history of the Art Department of Central TAFE and its satellite colleges in Perth from its beginning as Perth Technical Art School to its centenary in 2000. The art school was the major purveyor of art tuition in the State until the art department of the Western Australian Institute of Technology, now Curtin University of Technology was hived off from it in the late 1960s.
Chapters by Dorothy Erickson cover the years to1934, followed by those from Robyn Taylor covering the interwar years to 1968 and the split into two institutions. Barbara von Bronswijk covers the Architecture department until its departure to the WA University and Dorothy concludes the first half with the history to 2000.
The second section is divided into the various disciplines, with a chapter for each: Graphic Design and Multimedia, Printmaking. Painting and Sculpture, Ceramics, Jewellery and Metalsmithing, Fashion and Textiles, Theatre Arts and Design, Media Design, Visual Merchandising and Display and Art History and Arts Management.
